Southwestern Vermont Medical Center (SVMC) was awarded its sixth Magnet® Center for Nursing Excellence designation in November 2025. At this time, SVMC was one of only three hospitals in New England, and 32 hospitals worldwide, to earn the accreditation for a sixth time. The Kendall Emergency Department at SVMC is one of 94 emergency departments nationwide and only one in Vermont to receive the 2024-2027 Emergency Nurse Association (ENA) Lantern Award®. This honor is given to departments that exemplify exceptional practice and innovative performance in the core areas of leadership, practice, education, advocacy, and research.
Rural Hospital Leadership Award
The American Hospital Association™ (AHA) named SVMC the 2020 recipient of the Rural Hospital Leadership Award. Only one leadership group or hospital in the nation is recognized each year for guiding their hospital and community through transformational change on the road to healthcare reform.
National Cancer Center Institute designation
Through our membership with Dartmouth Health, our patients have access to one of only three National Cancer Institute-designated comprehensive cancer centers in New England.
