The highest compliment came from the Joint Commission’s physician surveyor, who shared that he would be confident to receive his own care—or his family’s care—right here at SVMC
Estevan Garcia, MD, DrPH, CEO & PresidentSouthwestern Vermont Medica Center (SVMC), a member of Dartmouth Health, has earned Joint Commission re-accreditation—a nationally recognized mark of quality, safety, and excellence in patient care.
This accreditation means SVMC's hospital and practice locations meet the same rigorous standards of quality and safety as hospitals across the country, ensuring our community can receive high-quality care close to home.
“Throughout the multi-day accreditation process, SVMC’s team, across all practices and departments, were routinely praised for their excellence and hospitality,” said SVMC’s CEO & President Estevan Garcia, MD, DrPH. “The highest compliment came from the Joint Commission’s physician surveyor, who shared that he would be confident to receive his own care—or his family’s care—right here at SVMC.”
SVMC’s emergency management drills and procedures were also highlighted by the Commission and will be shared with other healthcare organizations as “best practices.”
The Joint Commission is the largest U.S. healthcare accreditor. Accreditation is awarded after an unannounced, on-site survey assessing compliance with established standards. Surveyors review records, observe care, and interview staff and patients. Accreditation typically lasts three years.
While the survey process is complete, SVMC is focused on continuous quality improvement, to ensure the organization meets the highest standards for our patients and their families.
