As the saying goes, knowledge is power. That phrase is especially true when it comes to breast health. We are pleased to give people both the knowledge and power to take charge of their health through state-of-the-art imaging services delivered in a caring and comfortable setting.
The Breast Health and Imaging Center provides comprehensive imaging services to assist in the early detection of disease and conditions. Located on the Southwestern Vermont Medical Center (SVMC) campus, the Breast Health and Imaging Center is staffed by a team of caring and highly qualified individuals, including:
- Mammographers registered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists
- Ultrasound technologists registered by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography
- A Breast Health Navigator
We also offer evening hours because we understand that when a health issue arises you want answers fast.
Treatments and services
3D mammography
Located in our Breast Health and Imaging Center, SVMC’s advanced 3D mammography services allow for clearer images and better diagnosis of any breast abnormalities. Thanks to digital technology, your radiologist can manipulate the contrast of the images, making them darker or lighter, allowing for the masses to be more readily identified. Images can also be enlarged on screen to give your physician a better look at areas of concern.
Working with images obtained through 3D imaging, our advanced computer-aided detection (CAD) system searches for abnormal areas of density, calcification, or mass and alerts our radiological team of any need for further analysis.
As a patient, you will work with our Breast Health Navigator. The Breast Health Navigator will guide you through the diagnostic process. She reviews test results with you, answers questions, facilitates communication between you and your doctors, and is simply a source of support and guidance.
Ultrasound
We use state-of-the-art ultrasound equipment to reveal medical information that in the past may have only been discovered through surgery. From diagnosing and assessing conditions in the abdomen, breast, thyroid, uterus, and other areas of the body, to guiding procedures including biopsies and drainages, ultrasound provides quick and painless images—allowing your doctor to better assess your case and make a more informed plan for your care.
